Walking Stick Bug

On Tuesday, we caught a 5.5 inch walking stick bug. We compared him to a Praying Mantis, who has a fatter body, thicker front legs, larger head, and shorter antenna. The Walking Stick Bug is able to re-grow a leg, if taken off. (We did not try this...) He crawled around on my hand, arm and shoulder for quite a bit, and the students were very quiet the entire time!

The children really liked watching him test the air with his front leg, to see if he would walk further. They also marvelled about the tiny "spikes" on his legs. He was a nice green color when we found him, and he slightly changed when he came in contact with my dark shirt. We released him on a plant near the door, because we found that they eat plants and leaves. We saw him still there the next day....

So in love...

While learning how to use the Thesaurus (which is actually a form of dinosaur, don'tcha know), my children had to write sentences using more "colorful" words. I gave them a word, and they had to pick an alternate from the 'Sarus! Not hard, right?
Well... the word was "throw". And the sentence?!?
And I quote... "The man was FLING in love with the woman!"
(uh huh, and I'm "fling in love" with coffee...)

Breathe on Me Breath of God...

One day this week, we went outside to play, since the heat had slacked off a bit. It was very warm for me, since I had worn all black - school picture day, you understand... One little girl came up and sat behind me on the slide and said, "Oooh, you are warm! It's hot out here, isn't it?" I responded, "Yes, it sure is!" Then, a wonderful breeze whipped up, and I said, "Now that feels good!" The little one replied, "God's breathing on us! It does feel good!" How precious! I had to ask... "And, doesn't God's breath smell nice?" "Sure does!", was her reply.

I pledge.....

Have you hugged a Soldier today:?
